Two Examples of Self-Expression About Myself

Two Examples of Self-Expression About MyselfMy name is Tom and I am not a writer by profession, but I do write about myself. This is called Self-Expression and it is something I have been doing for years. As a child, I spent countless hours just observing others, wondering what they thought about themselves. As I got older, I learned how to put those observations to use and make observations about myself. When I was five, my parents divorced and my father moved to Colorado with my mother and siblings. My father left me with my grandparents as his responsibility. My mother did not want me there, but we were all in the same boat. I moved in with my grandparents and we all helped each other learn about ourselves and each other. The best way I can describe the time I spent with my new family was watching my mother begin to heal from the trauma of the divorce. Each time she came into the room, she looked at me and smiled. She touched my hair and eyes and gave me a tender kiss.I learned that I had become her best friend and soon, I was living with her children in a very large house with three bedrooms and an attached garage. The space was huge and filled with many stuffed animals and books that provided opportunities for me to absorb what I learned about myself and other people's observations. One day, my mother dressed me in a shirt and pants and sat me down on a chair next to her sewing machine. As she began to read the instructions on the machine, I watched as she wound the needle and chain and began to stitch a patch. Her movements were gentle and slow and I watched as she worked. While she worked, I lay there quietly, listening to her talk about her day and her frustrations and long hours away from home. I could see her struggle and eventually her hand fell back to where she had been stitching. Her hand still trembled and I began to realize what my observation was beginning to reveal. As she finished her shirt and pants, Mom climbed off the chair. I watched as she ca refully removed all of the needles and yarn from the sewing machine. As she worked, tears flowed down her face and she thanked me for being a good friend and letting her express herself to the extent that she did. Those are two examples of things I have written about myself and I have written about Self-Expression about myself. I will continue to write about self and other people's opinions on them. I am thankful that I was able to observe and learn from other people's observations and spend time with my grandmother when she needed me most.
